This update is meant to educate Eco-Alianza supporters on some of the background, as well as to bring you up to speed on some disturbing developments in Loreto. On Monday, March 30, 2015, President Jorge Alberto Avilés Pérez of Loreto, Baja California Sur, received the "Keys to the City" of Ventura, California from Mayor Cheryl Heitmann, confirming the Sister City relationship between the two municipalities. The formal ceremony, which took place in the historic Ventura City Hall, included the reading of a proclamation, declaring the relationship between The City of San Buenaventura, California and The City of Loreto, Baja California Sur, "To encourage bi-national promotion of conservation, education, social entrepreneurship and cultural exchange between its citizens and governments in support of the Parque Nacional Bahía de Loreto and Channel Islands Sister Park Project.” President Avilés thanked the people of the City of Ventura for the distinction of Sisterhood with the [...]

Sister City status has moved one step closer! A signed letter from Ventura Mayor Cheryl Heitmann was hand-delivered to Presidente Municipal de Loreto, Jorge Alberto Avilés Pérez, in an informal ceremony at Eco-Alianza’s headquarters, the Community Center for the Environment (CenCoMA) on the 13th of March, confirming the intention of forming a Sister City relationship. A formalization of the joining of the two cities is planned for the end of March in Ventura at the invitation of Mayor Heitmann.
