The 2024 Global Conference on Water and Climate, organized by the Waterkeeper Alliance, was held in the city of Milwaukee this October. More than 250 Waterkeeper groups from 19 countries gathered for four days of transformative learning, collaboration, and examination of the critical intersection of water and climate issues.
Carlos Posadas, our executive director, attended the conference on behalf of Eco-Alianza de Loreto and representing Loreto Coastkeeper. His participation focused on disseminating the activities carried out by Eco-Alianza de Loreto on issues related to water scarcity in the region, monitoring the water quality of the bay, and his recent experience as president of the advisory board of the water operating agency in Loreto.
Conference attendees shared discussions of justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion, building climate resilience; detecting water Pollution as a data problem; using strategic intervention to stop fossil fuel expansion; and the importance of managing risk outdoors. Waterkeeper groups were presented with standards that can be used as tools to protect watersheds. The groups were encouraged to develop closer collaboration with utilities to develop solutions that are “better, faster, and cheaper.”
Waterkeeper groups work tirelessly to protect their communities from imminent and future environmental threats, while also working to solve the climate challenges impacting the entire planet. Loreto and Eco-Alianza are proud to be members and participants of this valuable organization.
