Sustainable Tourism Congress

In July, our Executive Director, Carlos Posadas, was invited to participate as a speaker at a Sustainable Tourism Congress held in Cabo San Lucas by the Association of Executive Women in Tourism Companies demonstrating that Eco-Alianza’s reach goes far beyond the county limits. Carlos was contacted by the Association after a successful beach cleanup activity in Loreto that made the news.

The congress was attended by the mayors of Los Cabos and La Paz, government and academic authorities, businesswomen, civil society organizations and other members of the Los Cabos community. There were over 100 people in attendance, and Carlos spoke about responsible tourism and how a tourist destination becomes responsible.  He also spoke about Eco-Alianza core programs, and the good relationship we have built with the local government and the Park Director that drives our success.

Responsible Tourism requires that operators, hoteliers, governments, local people and tourists take responsibility, take action to make tourism more sustainable, “making better places for people to live in and better places for people to visit.”

“Mujer de 10”

Irlanda Murillo, who is part of our Environmental Education team, was interviewed on “Mujer de 10”, hosted by Bárbara Michel, where she talked about her career and how she has become a community leader, able to facilitate groups of young people and support them in their personal growth through Eco-Alianza’s projects. For her, working as part of the team is a fascinating life experience that allows her to combine her artistic passions with her knowledge of education. It also gives her the satisfaction of working directly with generations of students of all ages and, through the generation of critical thinking, of forming future citizens capable of making better decisions about their lives in the community and the proper use of the natural resources that surround them.

The television show seeks to celebrate the life stories of powerful and inspiring women born in Baja California Sur who have developed successful careers. Mentions like these put Eco-Alianza and its team at the forefront as a reference for those who truly want to see the community progress, have a vision for conservation and are prepared to set an example for their families, friends and colleagues.

The show aired on Tuesday 10 October on local free-to-air channel 10.1, Izzi channel 10, Cosmo Red channel 26 and Totalplay channel 10.
