We are deeply saddened by the tragic death of our good friend, Javier Mercado, known by his close friends as just “Javi.” Javi’s love of life and his family made him a joy to be with and all of us were infected by his humor. Javi made us laugh — a lot. Javier loved and adored his beautiful wife Kelli, their four sons and talked about them constantly with pride. Javi possessed incredible integrity, was a loyal friend and an honorable man who valued his many friendships.
Javier Mercado León was born in Mexico City and moved to Loreto in 1990 to work as Marketing Director for FONATUR. During this period, he represented the Mexican government in many national and international real estate conventions. In his quest to advance his knowledge and professionalism, Javier continued his education in the field of real estate investment and worked for twenty five years building his residential and commercial real estate business. His wife and beloved partner, Rebeca (Kelli) Perpuli together created a respected and successful real estate company in Loreto.
Javier was a highly respected leader in the community of Loreto; a member of the Mexican Association of Realtors, Realtors of the United States and former vice-president of the Lion’s Club International of Loreto. Javier served two conservation non-profits as Executive Secretary of Grupo Ecologista Antares and Founder and Vice President of the Board of Directors of Eco-Alianza de Loreto. Javier taught marketing for tourism at the Universidad de Baja California Sur campus in Loreto and enjoyed giving the youth of Loreto an education with a promise.
Javier contributed to the community of Loreto through continued participation in the development of a master plan to build a better future for Loreto and donated many hours volunteering to serve his community.
Javi leaves his wife, Kelli and his four sons – Javier, Carlos, Oliver Sebastián and Marco Vinicio. Javier was respected and loved by many and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
