This summer, Eco-Alianza de Loreto took an important step forward with its International Studies Program, building meaningful bridges between U.S. universities and our community.

In June, we welcomed three Mechanical Engineering students from the University of Notre Dame who spent eight weeks in Loreto. They worked alongside us to explore water-related challenges and propose innovative, practical solutions—laying the foundation for future collaboration.

Later in the summer, professors from Utah State University joined the effort, opening new opportunities to enrich both academic experiences and community engagement.

And this is just the beginning: soon, students from the University of California, Davis will partner with local high school teachers to strengthen educational methodologies with a cross-cutting focus on water. The International Studies Program is more than an academic exchange—it is a platform where talent, knowledge, and global commitment come together to create lasting impact for Loreto and beyond.

Eco-Alianza signed a collaboration agreement with Bahía de Loreto National Park, through which we joined the National Strategy for Beach and Coastline Cleanup and Conservation. Dr. Mehdi Heravi, academic, author, and philanthropist at Utah State University, signed the agreement as an honorary witness, attesting to the commitment made. This initiative, led by the Federal Environmental Agency (SEMARNAT), includes actions such as the restoration of coastal ecosystems, the adoption and conservation of beaches, the reduction of pollution, citizen participation, monitoring, and enforcement. Through this agreement, we will be able to coordinate joint activities that promote tangible actions in the areas of cleanup, surveillance, and environmental education, involving the community and various productive sectors.

In addition, it opens the door to the creation of support and training networks, facilitating the exchange of technical knowledge and best practices for the restoration of coastal ecosystems.

This agreement will not only strengthen our institutional presence, but also support the development of joint projects, facilitate access to specific funding opportunities, and enable the implementation of collaborative strategies for the protection of natural resources.
